ABCS Weekly Devotional: Serve One Another In Love

Devotion written by Kendra Linaman, Human Resources Director

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead use your freedom to serve one another in love. – Galatians 5:13-15

In this passage, Paul declares we are called to freedom and that freedom gives us the opportunity to love one another. This is what God wants for us, to serve one another in love. This does not always come easy and goes against our sinful nature. Putting others first, inviting outsiders in, and loving those who may not be able to love us in return goes against the call of the world. Freedom in Christ changes everything, especially how we view and interact with other people. When we walk in freedom, led by God’s love, we become willing and are excited to celebrate others success, support them in their struggles, encourage their giftedness and come alongside them in their disappointments. Serving others is the overflow of God’s love in us. When we walk in the fullness of God’s love and who we are in Him, we are not enslaved to people and things. We do not look to them for our identity because He is enough. As we go through this week I pray that we take full advantage of the freedom God has given to us, not to satisfy our own needs but to humbly serve others and to be an example of His love.
