Ministry Moments Blog
A devotion by Lucas Bass, Assistant Director of Parent Aide - Maricopa County
We’ve asked a few different people to tell us about their “why” in their ministry area, today we hear about Parent Aide from Lucas Bass.
…Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. – Mark 10:43-45
Growing up as a pastor’s kid, I couldn’t begin to count the number of time I’ve been to church. I’ve heard more 3-point sermons and cheesy illustrations from my dad than I could possibly remember. I’ve also been poured into by countless mentors, discipleship leaders and pastors, and I feel incredibly blessed by the grace God has shown me through His Church. Yet, when I read the passage above, I’m reminded that simply being “poured into” isn’t the end goal! We are called by Christ not to be served, but to serve. Jesus, more than anyone, could have allowed others to serve him. Instead, He lived as the greatest example of servanthood we have ever seen or will see. As a follower of Jesus, He has placed a yearning in my soul to serve the broken and hurting. This is my “why.” God has led me to ABCS to partner in ministry serving wounded families through Parent Aide. The love of Christ is the only real answer we could possibly offer to the families we serve. God has granted us an incredible opportunity to share that love in Parent Aide, and I thank Him each day for the blessing of such a unique responsibility in ministry.
