ABCS Weekly Devotional: Hands and Feet

We’ve asked a few different people to tell us about their “why” in their ministry area, today we hear from Jim Martin, Statewide Director of Leader Care.

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

On the night of a tremendous thunderstorm, a little boy’s sole desire was to find shelter in his parents’ bed. But with each entreaty, his mom would send him back to his room with the reminder that “God would take care of him in his own bed.” As he left his parents’ room after his last attempt he was told, “God is there with you. You’ll be okay.” To which the little boy responded, “Yeah, but sometimes you need God with skin on.” To be God and His love “with skin on” is the purpose of Leader Care. Those who serve God’s people and mediate His grace need His presence and mediated grace as much as anyone. Who is there to provide hope and care for them? Leader Care is.
