ABCS Weekly Devotional: Look For Him

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. – Philippians 4:8

It is very easy for me to get distracted. Even when I am doing well overall, it is easy for me to let negativity, envy, insecurity, or worry take over my thoughts. Whether it is social media, a TV show, an angry client or a deadline getting close, it doesn’t take much for me to focus completely on those things, that are neither excellent nor praiseworthy.

However, I have a choice in what I think about, which in turn helps me focus on Who’s work I am doing. I can sometimes notice myself getting more negative when thinking about a person or issue, and I am amazed at how quickly my attitude changes when I deliberately focus my thoughts on God and His word. When I am able to lift my thoughts up from my current situation and focus on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy, it changes my outlook on everything.

I love seeing the ministry stories that are sent out because they quickly put the emphasis and focus back on how God is present in my life and in this ministry every day. All I have to do to see His beauty and His presence is to look for Him.
