ABCS Weekly Devotional: Day-To-Day

Devotion by Samantha Bloom, Assistant Director, New Life Transitional Program

Love the Lord God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. – Deuteronomy 6:5-7

I recently heard a middle-aged man thank his parents for the strong foundation in the Lord that they had given to all four of their sons. The verses above from Deuteronomy give clear instructions for how to teach our children to love God. We are called to live our lives loving God with all that we are. In addition to setting the example by the way we live, God also calls us to talk about Him. He doesn’t ask us to just talk about Him on Sunday when we go to church. We are to talk about God in the simple, mundane parts of life.  The day-to-day moments provide opportunities to discuss why we do life the way we do. To discuss how God’s word applies to our current situation. To praise God for the rest at bedtime and for the energy to start the day when we wake up. I was thankful for the reminder that as a mother, I have an opportunity to give my children a foundation in Christ and the reminder that as a Christian, I am obligated to teach my children about Jesus. I imagine there are lots of day-to-day opportunities for our employees as they spend time with the children they work with. I believe God wants us to share His love and truth with all children and I am thankful to be part of a ministry that is faithful to the call.
