Devotion written by Desi Goodwin, Director of New Life Transitional Program.
So then just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. –Colossians 2:6-7
I was not raised in the church. When I became a believer, God literally transformed my life. In fact, I am not sure that I would be alive today if I had kept going the direction I was headed. Everything was new to me as a believer, my roots in Christ were starting to form and I was overflowing with thankfulness every day. Now that I have been a believer for some time the newness may not always feel as bright and shiny as it once did. Instead of God forming my roots for me to stay rooted in Christ, I am responsible for keeping God at the source for everything. I don’t always remember to do that. Three disciplines that help keep me strengthened in the faith are spending time with God by reading His word, in worship or in prayer, remembering what God has done in my life through testimony and being thankful… always giving thanks. When I put the time into these disciplines, the newness comes back and I am once again strengthened.
