Devotion by Raquel Williams, Director of New Life Pregnancy Centers
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. – Zephaniah 3:17
Triggers, if I ever write a book this will be a chapter on its own. We all have them, the sounds, smells, objects and reminders that take us back to a past experience. Sometimes triggers take you to a good moment but other times they can spiral us downward from a moment of peace to complete meltdown in seconds. There are too many for me to count that can instantly take me back to February 28th and March 1, 2015, the weekend I lost my husband. Through the past 4 years, with God’s help, I have had to learn to face and overcome many of these triggers and fears since they are a part of daily life. Other triggers are sometimes avoidable….until they’re not, like hospitals. I am a few days away from knee surgery *sigh*. I wonder if this is how David must have felt knowing he was about to face the giant Goliath, yet he placed his trust in God and met Goliath face to face to not only beat it but completely demolish it. I feel like my giant awaits me. Like with any trigger, I have a choice to either lean into the fear and back down OR lean into God, put on the armor (Ephesians 6:10-11) and stand firm so that THE mighty warrior can save me from my misery. I choose the latter. I cannot overcome my triggers/fears until I meet them face to face. Praying for strength & courage.
I don’t know what triggers you face daily but know that God will grant us the strength to get through every moment. Know that you don’t face them alone.
