ABCS Weekly Devotional: Give Me a Break

Devotion written by Rachel Ramey, Assistant Director New Life Pregnancy Center & Mission Encounter 360

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:28-31

Some weeks feel extra-long, don’t they? For me these past several weeks have been filled with long days, sleepless nights and a full schedule. I have often answered the question “How are you?” with “I’m tired!” It is in these moments – when I am tired, weary and looking for a break – that I need to be reminded of God’s strength.

My own strength will fail me, but He does not grow tired or weary. The Lord fully understands my weakness and limitations and He strengthens me through them. His strength is made perfect in my weakness (2 Cor. 12:9) and I can be confident that His good purpose will be accomplished. With God’s strength renewing me, I can continue and be a part of a bigger picture than I can see. Those long days become opportunities to see God at work and to be his hands and feet. My sleepless nights become opportunities to pray earnestly. And my full schedule becomes blessings and memories of how God continually provides.
